3 tips that can save you millions…
The video has been taken down, but here are 3 takeaways from Apple's recruiting process:
1. The Greatest People are Self-Managed
Think about your best employees. They typically show initiative, need little direction, and take pride in their work.
2. They Share a Common Vision
This element separates the haves from the have-nots. There are literally hundreds of people who look good on paper, but ultimately would do a horrible job. Why? They don’t share the common vision.
3. The Best Managers are NOT Seasoned Professionals
I have shared in a previous blog that performance-based interviews are far more effective than behavioral interviews. In the video, they describe the struggle of hiring people with several years of experience, but didn’t know how to do anything. They ultimately hired a woman with no prior experience in the role and she succeeded.
Apple has been on the cutting edge of technology for decades. What I find most interesting about this video is hiring people based on their ability to do the job, and not because they have advanced degrees or decades of experience. Sharing the common vision is truly what mattered, and it is exactly those types of people that made a difference.
